I built this because my own bill was a bit of a mystery.

This simple tracker shows you approximately how much each appliance in your house is costing you per month.

Just enter:

  • Your appliance name (Kettle, Lounge TV, Lounge Lights etc.)
  • Watts (the rated Watts for the device) - or your own real world measurement. I'll show a couple of simple ways to do that in a future post
  • Hours used per day

It automatically calculates your monthly cost for each appliance based on the rate you are currently paying.

There is also default kWh rate in the spreadsheet, which you can alter to the rate you are actually paying - and it will automatically apply that rate to all the row calculations automatically. It is set by default to 24.5p. Just change it to your current rate.

I found going through this process a valuable exercise in itself. What it did is provide me with a bit more knowledge regarding what things were costing. This allowed me to start to make more informed decisions and gradually I was able to claw back an element of control. As the saying goes knowledge is power - quite literally in this case!Perfect if you want to assess what things are costing with a view to cutting your bill without guessing.
