Welcome to Energy Joe's Blog
Let’s clear up one thing straight away: my name isn’t actually Joe - it's Rob.
In the UK, 'Joe Bloggs' means an ordinary person. And that is exactly who I am. I’m not an energy executive, a politician, or a millionaire. I’m just a regular bloke living in a standard, drafty British home who got absolutely sick of looking at monthly energy bills with a pit of dread in my stomach.
When the Ofgem price caps started soaring, I decided to stop complaining and start tracking. I armed myself with a bit of knowledge and information, bought a cheap plug-in energy monitor, opened up a spreadsheet, and started testing every single appliance and heating setting in my home I could. And from there I started making small changes here and there. And I started to feel like I was regaining some control of the situation.
I don't have solar panels, a heat pump, or any particular fancy tech - just a normal home in the UK trying to pay less.
The good news? I managed to made a dent my home’s energy consumption and costs.
The better news? I’ve built this site to help you do the same. No confusing industry jargon. Just real, mathematically proven hacks, everyday product reviews, and suggestions that keep cash in your wallet and heat in your rooms.
If you want to cut your bills with me, subscribe for free - you'll receive notifications of new content and you can grab the energy tracker spreadsheet.
Cheers,
Joe (The fake Joe, but a real UK homeowner)

For the record this site has no connection to the mobile game called "Energy Joe". You can find that game on the Google Play store. I've not tried it.
This site also has no connection to an energy company called "Joe Energy".
A little bit more about me
I've worked in IT for most of my working life - I'm pretty good with numbers and a bit less so with words - which makes the choice of writing a blog interesting and a little challenging. I'm not really practical in the traditional sense. I do have a dangerously small amount of caring/medical knowledge after a long time looking after two ailing parents who I loved very much and to whom I owe everything. I have a few social/sporty-ish hobbies which are important to me and help to relieve the stresses of everyday life. Oh, and somehow I have acquired three cats that dominate my existence when I am at home - none of whom like to be cold.
